A lot of my students are learning Serbian because of their partner. You know someone really loves you when they have the patience and when they put in effort to learn such a complex language! That really tells you something about love! Probably a lot of you already know some basic phrases and sentences. Let’s take a look at some useful verbs!

voleti, volim – to love

sviđati se, sviđam se – to like

nedostajati, nedostajem – to miss

(po)ljubiti, (po)ljubim – to kiss

(za)grliti, (za)grlim – to hug

maziti se, mazim se – to cuddle

obožavati, obožavam – to adore

zaprositi, zaprosim – to propose

raskinuti, raskinem – to break up

smuvati se, smuvam se – to hook up

muvati, muvam; flertovati, flertujem – to flert

svađati se, svađam se – to argue

These verbs can be used to make a lot of different sentences. Remember, verbs are the most important vocabulary, since they carry the most of the information in the sentence. The verbs in Serbian are given in infinitive and first person present tense. You can use infinitive (the form that ends on –ti) to construct past or future tense, and you can use first person present tense (the one that ends on –m) to continue constructing other persons. Now, let’s take a look at some nouns and adjectives.
